The Sonoma County Supervisors unanimously approved a one-year pilot program that will allow veterans and college students to ride county buses free of charge. The pilot program could provide fare subsidies for nearly 300,000 riders a year, based on county estimates. Veterans holding a Veterans Administration (VA) ID card or a Sonoma County Veterans ID card will be allowed free use of Sonoma County Transit. This program is the first of its kind in the nation and the primary beneficiaries will be college students at the two Santa Rosa Junior College campuses and those attending Sonoma State University in Cotati. The $311,000 cost for the year-long program will be paid from the county general

Air Show 2014

It was the Marine Corps aviation marvel the ‘OSPREY’ that was the star at the recent ‘Wings Over Wine Country’ airshow held at the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport. This two-day event was held under pristine weather conditions and drew thousands of aviation buffs as well as the downright curious.The Air Show was hosted by the Pacific Coast Air Museum.


The Sonoma County community gathered at the POW/MIA Memorial in Santa Rosa Memorial Park on September 19, 2014 to remember and honor those brave souls who were prisoners of war or missing in action. Many veteran organizations, including Military Order of Purple Hearts Ch. 78, the Marine Corps League Det. 686, United Veterans Council of Sonoma County, and Amvets Post 40, sponsored a gracious and heartfelt ceremony to salute these men and women, and their families. Darrel Shumard, USAF, WWII, POW, gave the keynote address. The National Anthem was sung by the Santa Rosa High Choral Ensemble.
