Al Dalton Laid To Rest

The morning of September 14th started gray and overcast as family and the military family of VVA Chapter 223 met at Santa Rosa Memorial Park at 10:00 am for the military funeral of Alan Blaine Dalton, Secretary of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 223. The service was conducted by Dwight E. Jungkeit of the InFaith Mission. Songs (The Old Rugged Cross and Amazing Grace) were lead by Dennis J. Durham, Pastor of St. Mark Lutheran Church here in Santa Rosa accompanied with his guitar. The always moving flag ceremony was performed by Commander Todd and two petty officers of the United States Navy. Unfortunately due to an equipment malfunction only the first two notes of taps were played.

2017 Dinner Dance Fundraiser Held

On Saturday night September 9th an enthusiastic group came together at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building to raise funds to assist veterans in need as part of the annual event put on by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 223. Lou Nunez, chapter vice-president was the chairman of the event and the MC for the evening. Using round tables this year, brisk conversation was heard around the main auditorium as veteran’s issues in Sonoma County was discussed. Chef Luigi DiPace provided an excellent dinner consisting of Tri-Tip Steaks, Chicken, Vegetable Medley, Salad, and Baked Potatoes with all the “fixins”. Alan Dalton - VVA 223 Secretary Passes Away

Alan passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017. Al was born in October 1940 in St. Louis, Mo. enlisting in the Navy on July 20, 1962 and trained to be a navigator on the Douglas A-3 Skywarrior. The A-3 was the largest aircraft to fly off the deck of a carrier. Al served on the carriers Shangri-La, Coral Sea and the Intrepid serving off the coast of Vietnam. Al's last squadron was "Heavy Attack Squadron Two". Al is survived by his wife Shirley and children David, Jane, and Susan. Services are scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2017. Military service will be held at Santa Rosa Memorial Park at 10:00 am. General Service will be held at Daniel's Chapel of the Roses at 2:00 pm.

KQED To Show New Documentary "The Vietnam War"

"The Vietnam War" a new documentary by directors Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, tells the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. Broadcast starts Sunday, September 17 at 8:00 pm of 18 hour series continuing through September 21st. Final five episodes continue on Sunday, September 24 through September 28th.
