The Sonoma County community gathered at the POW/MIA Memorial in Santa Rosa Memorial Park on September 19, 2014 to remember and honor those brave souls who were prisoners of war or missing in action. Many veteran organizations, including Military Order of Purple Hearts Ch. 78, the Marine Corps League Det. 686, United Veterans Council of Sonoma County, and Amvets Post 40, sponsored a gracious and heartfelt ceremony to salute these men and women, and their families. Darrel Shumard, USAF, WWII, POW, gave the keynote address. The National Anthem was sung by the Santa Rosa High Choral Ensemble.
